The event toasted a landmark creative partnership between the iconic publication and contemporary British brand YMC (You Must Create), celebrating an exclusive run of limited-edition T-shirts inspired deep within the Dazed archives.

Hosted on Sunday evening, September 20, the launch took over YMC’s east London flagship store. For one night only, the retail space was stripped of its standard merchandise, transformed instead into a minimalist gallery showcasing the newly minted collaborative designs. Guests mingled amidst the racks while enjoying refreshments provided by Ghost Labs, setting a relaxed yet celebratory tone in the thick of the fashion capital’s busiest week.

The collaboration represents a convergence of enduring creative history. It marks the 35th anniversary of Dazed and the 30th anniversary of YMC, celebrating two cultural heavyweights that have rubbed shoulders and influenced the British style landscape since the 1990s.

"YMC and Dazed have always been closely connected, especially in the early days of the brand," reflected YMC creative director Sage Toda-Nation during the event. "I’ve always been inspired by the Dazed editorials from that time."

Toda-Nation co-hosted the launch alongside a formidable contingent from the magazine, including Dazed editor-in-chief Ted Stansfield, art director Ester Mejibovski, and artist Ollie Dove. Together, they welcomed a crowd of creatives to view the garments up close and celebrate a shared history of counter-cultural expression.

Archival Roots and the 1996 Orgy T-Shirt Reissue

The inspiration for the collaboration stretches back more than three decades, drawing directly from the magazine’s July 1996 issue. Specifically, the design was born from a historical advertisement featuring a series of specially commissioned T-shirts created by notable designers of the era, including Richard Voinnet, Christophe Lemaire, and YMC.

Most notably, that archival advertisement featured the provocative slogan "Dazed & Confused Stripper"—a phrase that makes a triumphant return, printed boldly across the pieces in the new collection.

The project itself carries the official title of the 1996 Orgy T-shirt Reissue, a name derived from a striking photograph captured by artist Ollie Dove, which is prominently featured on the garment. Contrary to what the provocative title might suggest, the image has a much more cerebral origin story rooted in human connection and the weight of modern existence.

"I photographed this image 10 years ago," Dove explained, discussing the artwork behind the drop. "I was making loose drawings of humans living all over each other, but the drawings weren’t working, so I asked my friends to reinterpret one of them for me so I could photograph it."

"Everyone thinks it’s an orgy! But in my head, it wasn’t sexual at all," Dove added. "It was about feeling completely overwhelmed by humans and the complications of being human."

Bringing the Legacy Forward Through Modern Casting

To bring the archival resurrection into the present day, the campaign lens was turned toward the modern community that sustains Dazed today. The lookbook and promotional imagery feature members of the Dazed team serving as models: Alice, Luis, Maya, Rae, Percy, Precious, and Sam. They are joined by Riley, the son of Dazed’s Chief Operating Officer. The campaign was captured through the lens of photographer Wynston Shannon and styled by Bella Kavanagh, grounding the historical homage in a contemporary, peer-to-peer aesthetic.

"We loved the collection’s play on words and felt it perfectly captured the punky, irreverent, put-your-fingers-up attitude that has defined the magazine for the past three and a half decades," said Dazed art director Ester Mejibovski. "It felt right to bring it back."

For fashion enthusiasts and culture followers who were unable to attend the exclusive east London launch event, the collection remains accessible. The limited-edition T-shirts are available to purchase online directly through the official You Must Create website.

Beyond celebrating two milestones in British publishing and design, the collaboration carries a philanthropic mission. One hundred percent of Dazed’s profits from the collection will be donated directly to an emerging young designer to help fund the creation of their next collection. Meanwhile, YMC’s share of the profits will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Care, a tribute honoring the brand’s co-founder and original creative director, Fraser Moss.

During the high-energy whirlwind of London Fashion Week’s SS27 season, Dazed brought together fashion insiders, artists, and long-time collaborators for an intimate gathering in east London.
